ArchivalResource

The Harvard Columbus Expedition. 1986.

Includes family bulletins written by Morison during the Ptarmigian cruise from Quincy, Massachusetts to Kingston, Jamaica, November 14, 1937 to February 8, 1938. This cruise served as a trial run to the formal expedition of 1939-1940. This collection also features bulletins from the Mary Otis cruise, which ran from Miama, Florida to Havana, Cuba, June 4-July 10, 1940, as a sort of 'clean-up' to the formal expedition. An article by Morison, entitled "A Haitian 'Reading Period,'" published in the Harvard Alumni Bulletin, April 21, 1939, is also included. A foreword by Marx explains the history of these three voyages.
